Happy Holidays, you saucy people, you. Here's is a smattering of my favorite damsels from Danger Damsels Burlesque. Every year they get the crew together for a naughty (nice?) performance at Billy's Lounge in Grand Rapids, MI.
I've been fortunate enough to work with them for the better part of two years now. Every show I learn something new, I'm delighted by the performances, and grateful to be able to capture the magic.
For the photographers out there, I brought my standard kit, which is the Nikon D810 with 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom for most of the performance. Occasionally I would switch to my 105mm f/2.8 VR macro lens for close-ups. I was seated in the front row so this works out nicely.
The lighting situation at Billy's is ALWAYS difficult. I often have trouble in post with color correction as the stage is awash in blue and magenta light for the most part. This time I brought a set of white balance cards and shot those in order to set my white balance for the show. It ended up working quite well and I would recommend it to other photogs out there if you're looking for more accurate color.
All post processing done in Capture One Pro 12. I don't use filters or presets, I edit everything custom to the shoot. Which doesn't mean I don't do some batch editing, just that I don't care to have my "look" dictated by whatever film presets can be bought by any photographer out there. (No shade thrown to Mastin or VSCO, their products are fantastic. Just not my bag.)
My camera settings are typically shutter speed at 1/160th, ISO at 2000, and aperture at f/2.8-4. This gets me through most situations for the night and the Nikon D810 is just fantastic for low-noise and high-ISO performance. In fact I often add grain to the images in post.
OK, ok... Without further ado... here are some images to stuff your stockings with. Cheers. <3
